A new look for Australian Fencing

A new logo for Australian Fencing has been adopted by the Australian Fencing Federation.

While the current logo has served us well for 30 years, the sporting environment has changed. With increased competition among a growing number of sports offered at the junior level, it’s critical to fencing’s development in Australia that we represent ourselves using contemporary imagery reflecting a dynamic, forward-looking sport.

The Athlete’s Commission consulted widely with the fencing community throughout 2017 to better understand what imagery would inspire the current fencing community and capture the imagination of newcomers. The Board used that feedback to brief Brisbane design firm Salt Design, whose artists produced several abstract and figurative options for the Board’s consideration.

The winning design, shown above, features a fencer executing a powerful lunge, with a nod to Australia’s favourite marsupial in the back leg. Australia’s national colours, green and gold, dominate. The design is a strong image of contemporary fencing, and with the Southern Cross incorporated it’s unmistakably Australian.

The new logo will feature on all official communications, including the website, social media, letterhead, team tracksuit and Australian Fencing Team supporter apparel. While the new logo will be applied to all future team tracksuits, existing jackets bearing the retiring logo will remain current and acceptable team attire.

The new image will be rolled out in the coming days, culminating in a new website for Australian Fencing bearing the logo and updated colours.
