
World Champs underway in Georgia
The 2025 Senior World Championships got underway overnight with Australia having eight fencers represent at the event.
Held in Tsibilisi in Georgia from 22-30 July, a small but strong contingent of fencers are in Europe to take part in the event and battle it out with the best in the world at the biggest event of the year.
Head Sabre coach Aleksandra Shelton is also in attendance having taken part in an FIE Women Coaches Seminar beforehand.
Overnight in the Men’s Foil event, Joseph Glasson went four up and two down in his morning poule – with the two bouts that he lost going to 5-4.
Glasson then conquered Slovakian Arpad Fazekas 15-10 to progress to the Table of 64 which will commence today at 3pm AEST (9am local time). He will take on Jie Xu from China whi is ranked 31st and won Bronze at the Asian Championships in Bali last month.
