National fencing tournament

National fencing to remain on hold

Calendar

It is with heavy hearts the AFF Board has decided to vacate the remaining 2020 national tournament and camp schedule. With increased uncertainty around state border closures and associated quarantine requirements, it is unlikely national events can be conducted in a safe, equitable and economically feasible manner this year.

Considering this decision, the AFF has refunded all capitation fees for 2020. Any athlete who has joined at the national level for 2020 is encouraged to contact their state for a refund of the AFF portion of their membership fee.

The 2021 calendar remains unchanged. The AFF will continue to monitor state border closures and will make further announcements on the AFF’s 2021 competition schedule towards the end of the calendar year.

As the public health situation improves, the AFF will explore discreet training opportunities to be hosted in conjunction with member states. In the meantime, the national coaching staff continue to work with high performance athletes via remote training sessions and through the online classroom, with coaches and referees also supported in this manner.

Rankings

The AFF will freeze all athletes’ rankings as they were on 11 March 2020. It is still too early for the AFF to determine when ranking calculations will once again resume. The AFF will continue to monitor the international competition calendar and, as with domestic activities, will make further announcements on the calculation of ranking points as the competition landscape becomes clearer.
