High Performance Manager Appointment

The Australian Fencing Federation (AFF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Weiss to the newly created position of High Performance Manager.

The position will lead the National High Performance Program and oversee all HP initiatives – working together with key stakeholders to maximise athlete ability and deliver a sustained period of success to the sport.
After an extensive search to fill the position and a high calibre of applications received, the AFF Board and High Performance Commission (HPC) are excited to appoint Weiss to the role.

Speaking about the appointment, HPC Chair Sam Auty said that the role is a significant step for the AFF as it looks to continue programs put in place working together with the Australian Sports Commission, Australian Institute of Sport and National Institute Network (NIN).
“We are really excited to be able to create this position at the AFF, and ensure that our athletes, coaches and support staff have the best resources at an elite level in this country,” Auty said.

“Andrew will bring a wealth of experience that he has accumulated in management roles and across the sporting sector over the past 25 years, and his philosophies mirror those of our organisation.

“As we look to launch our new Strategic Plan in the near future, the HP strategies and pathways programs will form an integral part of our direction moving forward, and the appointment will play a big role in that.”
Weiss has held numerous stints leading Victorian sporting organisations in CEO roles – most recently holding the Interim CEO position at Table Tennis Victoria throughout 2024.

He founded and has been part of his own media company – Eskimo Media Group (incorporating My Sport Live) since 2013, and says he is looking forward to joining the fencing family.

“I’m really excited to have been put into the High Performance Manager role at the Australian Fencing Federation, and can’t wait to work with all stakeholders associated with the organisation,” he said.

“There is such a wonderful pool of talent within the sport in Australia, and it’s a great time to be involved as we look build a pathway that aims to launch our athletes among the very best in the world.

“Fencing globally and in Australia has a proud, rich history and I am looking forward to being part of such a wonderful sport and organisation.”

Andrew began in the role on 9 February and can be contacted via hp.manager@fencing.org.au.
