Working with Children Credential in JustFence

What is the Working with Children Credential?

The Working with Children Credential is used to record and verify that a person holds a valid child-related screening clearance issued by the appropriate state or territory authority.

This credential is required for individuals in roles that involve working with or being in contact with children and young people within Australian Fencing Federation (AFF) activities, including:

  • Coaches
  • Officials
  • Media representatives
  • Certain AFF staff and volunteers

Once the credential is submitted, the AFF will verify the clearance details and, where appropriate, approve the credential.

Why is this Credential Required?

The AFF is committed to providing a safe environment for all participants. Verifying Working with Children clearances helps ensure that individuals in positions of trust meet the relevant safeguarding requirements of their state or territory.

State and Territory Clearances

Different jurisdictions use different names for these clearances. The following credentials are accepted through this process:

State/Territory Clearance Type/Website
New South Wales (NSW) Working with Children Check
South Australia (SA) Working with Children Check
Victoria (VIC) Working with Children Check
Western Australia (WA) Working with Children Check
Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Working with Vulnerable People Registration
Queensland (QLD) Blue Card

If your clearance was issued in another state or territory, please provide the relevant details when submitting your credential.

Before You Submit

Please ensure that:

  • Your clearance is current and valid.
  • The name on your clearance matches your JustFence profile.
  • Any required registration or clearance numbers have been entered correctly.
  • You update your credential whenever your clearance is renewed or reissued.

Maintaining a current Working with Children Credential helps the AFF meet its safeguarding obligations and ensures that coaches, officials, staff, and volunteers can continue participating in their approved roles.

Important Information About Expiry

Working with Children clearances have expiry dates and must remain current.

If your Working with Children Credential expires:

  • The credential will no longer be considered valid.
  • Any other AFF credentials or accreditations that depend on a current Working with Children clearance may become inactive.
  • You may lose eligibility to undertake certain coaching, officiating, staffing, or other approved roles until the clearance is renewed and verified.

For this reason, it is important to keep your clearance details up to date and renew your clearance before it expires.

Underage Applicants

Some states and territories do not issue Working with Children clearances to individuals below a specified age.

If you are unable to obtain a clearance because you are under the minimum age required in your jurisdiction, please contact the AFF for assistance at [email protected].
