New Australian National Epee Coach Has International Success in Mind
BRISBANE – The Australian Fencing Federation today announced that it has appointed championship fencer and international elite coach Hugo Dergal to serve as the Australian national epee coach.
Mr. Dergal has coached fencers from France, Switzerland, Denmark and Germany to national, European and world podium finishes and Olympic qualifications. He also has extensive experience coaching fencers of all ages and levels.
Mr. Dergal said, “I believe that every athlete has a unique potential to reach new heights, and I am committed to helping each Australian fencer unlock that potential through hard work, strategic training, and a positive, supportive team environment. Together, I am confident that we can build strong and unified teams that will not only achieve success on the world stage but also embody the spirit, integrity, and sportsmanship that are central to our sport.”
AFF President Davide Wheeler said, “We are so pleased to have Hugo joining the AFF. Hugo will bring strong expertise and inspiration to the high-performance program, and we look forward to his collaboration and planning towards the Brisbane Olympic Games in 2032.”
