Jeff Gray

Jeff Gray has made an outstanding and meritorious contribution to Australian Fencing over a significant period and in many capacities. He has been a significant contributor as a Technical Director, Technical Venue consultant, as a coach, and as an equipment manufacturer and supplier, and as an event sponsor.

Technical Director International Jeff has been the Technical Director for AFF Major Events since 1994. In that time he has specified and designed fields of play, technical installations, equipment supply and control and FoP management of a standard recognised as world leading. Especially as part of the Sydney 2000 Team described by the FIE at the time as having delivered “The best fencing event ever”. Major Events Delivered: The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games The Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games The Commonwealth Fencing Championships, Newcastle 2002, The Commonwealth Fencing Championships Melbourne 2010, The Commonwealth Veterans Fencing Championships, Sydney 2003, Melbourne 2010 The Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships, Chennai, India 2009 World Veteran Fencing Championships, Sydney 2007 14 Editions of the Challenge Australia World Cup/Grand Prix, Men’s, Women’s Individual and team events.
Technical Director – National Jeff Gray has designed and developed technical delivery of all Sydney based National events since the early 1990’s. The standard of presentation has caused a significant upgrading in the standard of event delivery now provided by all host associations. Jeff has worked with member Associations, ACT, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia to deliver technical facilities and services to AFF events.

Much of the materials now accepted as standard were purchased and supplied by Jeff to raise the quality of events and the equipment and environment enjoyed by participants. These include LED name boards, Raised boxes and lights, referee to rear configurations, colour surrounds for pistes and the JG modular aluminum piste system

Technical Director – State Jeff has for many years been the Technical Director for NSWFA overseeing the installation and layout of the various venues used over many years. Under his guidance and advice NSWFA has steadily upgraded and maintained the standard of equipment and venue provided to its members.

Technical Director – Consulting Jeff is an internationally recognized expert in venue layout design and technical installation. He has consulted to the NSW FA, the VFA, Sport and Recreation Victoria, Fencing New Zealand and other Member Associations and clubs on their technical installations and requirements,

Coach Jeff has coached and developed outstanding athletes in each discipline at all age levels. His students have won numerous state age and open events as well as national podium results and World and Commonwealth Championship representation.

Qualified as a Maitre d’armes and with NCAS Level 2 in each discipline. He has delivered many Development Camps and the Epee Program under NSWFA Development programs.

Jeff is a coach at the University of Technology Fencing Club, the Swords Club, Southern Highlands Club, and St Aloysius’ College.

Equipment Manufacture and Supply Jeff Gray had a dream where Australian Fencers could buy readily available world class equipment – when they needed it. At the time of establishing J G Fencing in 1993 the availability of equipment for infrastructure and personal use was extremely limited and very few of the part time suppliers invested in inventory or a range and variety of stock. Jeff Gray made the decision to invest his superannuation in the future of fencing in Australia. This involved the development of a full range of personal and capital equipment used in the sport. He has provided at the venue sales and service to Australia’s fencers over many years across almost every venue in Australia.

Event Sponsor Jeff Gray has been a sponsor at many events. He is the official supplier to and sponsor off NSWFA. He was a sponsor to the 2010 Commonwealth Championships and the 2011 Challenge Australia. In addition Jeff has personally assisted many individuals with the provision of equipment.

Jeff Gray the man Jeff Gray is also recognized as a man of character, who is devoted to the sport of fencing and its participants. The awarding of Honorary Membership for Life will be an honor truly valued by him, and one well deserved for him.
