AFF National Head Coach set to move on
The Australian Fencing Federation would like to inform the community that National Epee Coach Hugo Dergal has handed in his notice of resignation on Wednesday morning.
Hugo, who has been in the role for 12 months, has accepted another position abroad.
While it is disappointing to see Hugo move on given the giant steps that have been taken over the past 12 months in the High Performance Program (HPP), the High Performance Commission (HPC) has already begun working on finding his successor.
Hugo will continue in the role through until the end of November, including heading to Hong Kong at the end of the month as part of the Australian Team at the Junior World Cup, before finishing his term at the end of the event.
Arrangements for the Vancouver World Cup event and the national training program at the State Training Centre for December onwards will be developed.
We would like to wish Hugo all the best in his future coaching endeavors, and will keep the community updated of further information as it comes to hand.
For any further questions / information relating to the HPP, please contact High Performance Manager, Andrew Weiss via [email protected].
A message from Hugo:
Dear athletes, coaches, and members of the Australian fencing community,
I would like to inform you that I have decided to step down from my position as National Épée Coach for professional and personal reasons. This decision is not related in any way to the Federation, the athletes, or the High Performance Program.
It has been a great privilege to work with such dedicated and talented people, and I have truly enjoyed being part of the Australian fencing community. I believe that Australian fencing has strong potential for continued growth and success.
My final day of service will be 2 December 2025.
I wish all athletes, coaches, and colleagues the very best for the future, and I look forward to seeing you again soon on the international circuit.
Kind regards,
Hugo DERGAL
