Joseph Glasson WINS JWC event in Thailand
Australian Joseph Glasson has achieved an incredible feat overnight by winning the 2025 FIE Foil Junior World Cup (JWC) Event in Bangkok, Thailand.

Glasson went 4-2 in his Pools early in the day to head to the Direct Elimination round and straight into the Table of 128, where he beat Hong Kong’s Ho Chun Edwin Hui 15-8.
In his round of 64 bout, he took on Frenchman Maxime Dubreuil – making light work of his previously undefeated opponent with a 15-4 win.
He overcame China’s Tian Bao in the 32 by edging him 15-13 before the competition got even more intense.
Joseph’s next two opponents pushed him to the line, as he took a 15-14 win in the last 16 and a 15-13 win in the final 8.
In the semi-final against Singaporean Samuel Elijah Robson, Glasson was 13-10 down before winning four points in a row on the way to a 15-14 victory.
Glasson controlled the Final in arguably his best performance of the day, beating Canadian Borys Budovskyi 15-12
Speaking soon after his incredible achievement, Glasson was emotional after a long day and said he still wasn’t exactly sure what had happened.
“It has absolutely not sunk in yet,” Glasson admitted an hour after he won the deciding bout.
“Even when I scored the final touch right at the end, it didn’t feel real – I actually thought I was being pranked.”
Glasson was flanked by a huge contingent of Australians that are over at the event including athletes, coaches, family and other team members and he admitted it was a key part in his success throughout the day.
“There was a lot of support from all the Aussies today and that really helped me so much when I was tired,” he said.
“Having them there and especially members of my family was amazing. My family are everything to me and they are there with me every step of the way – the support from everyone today was the extra 5-10% I needed to get the job done.”
Success hasn’t come overnight for Glasson who has been improving significantly over the past few years and is now categorised through he Australian Sports Commission.
“I put absolutely everything into this sport and it has been a long time coming getting a result like this – I have gone close a few times and today just felt amazing.”
It was a gruelling day of competition spanning almost 12 hours and when the dust settles Joseph knows what he is going to do when he leaves the venue to celebrate.
“I’m cooked – been eating super healthy leading up to the competition so I think I might treat myself to a cheat meal – it’s probably going to be Maccas.”
