HPP News

The AFF is again calling for interested fencers to nominate for the Under-23 Australian Fencing Team and the Australian Fencing Squad for 2016/2017.  Nominations will only be accepted by 25 December (AFT) or 29 December (AFS) via the AFF’s Registration and Payment System.

To nominate, click here.  To see who has already nominated, click here.

The AFF has provided a significant amount of source information regarding the AFF's High Performance Program on this web site under the High Performance menu, including a flowchart and some frequently asked questions.  Athletes should take special note of the obligations in the HPP 2016-17 plan, as they have changed (compared to the 15-16 Plan).

Please ensure that you nominate for the correct age category under the correct program (AFT or AFS).  Please also ensure that you fully understand the athlete commitments that are required under the HPP - these can be found in the High Performance Annual Program (High Performance menu at left, High Performance Program option).

The selection process and timeline will follow the Operational Protocol found on this web site under the Documents and Policies menu / All Documents and Policies option.

From 1 February 2016, the AFF will commence paying for Australian entries for the Team events held concurrently with FIE Senior World Cups and Junior World Cups.  These fees are set by the FIE and are 400 Euros (Senior) and 150 Euros (Junior) per Team.  Previously, these fees needed to be paid for by individual fencers.

In early 2015, it was agreed by the State Associations to levy athletes attending overseas events a nominating fee ($50 per event) which would then contribute to a pool of funds which would then be used to pay for the Australian Team event entries.  Recent changes to the AFF's Selection Policy have now facilitated this process.

The revised overseas (FIE / EFC) event entry process is now available, and is documented on the Competitions / FAQs web page (click here).

In Victoria, the Australian Fencing Federation manages the High Performance Program foil squad activities.  This means that Fencing Victoria has no link to the administration of these squads, apart from providing priority strip hire at the State Fencing Centre.

Squad activities generally consist of some warm-up and footwork, following by bouting.  Squad times are 6:30pm ownards on Tuesdays, and 7pm onwards on Fridays.

For the sake of (financial) clarity, any athlete who engages in any of these activities with any squad member is also deemed to be part of the squad, as they are taking advantage of the process, structure, and resources of AFF squad training.  Any coach is invited to give lessons during the squad session, and the squad coach should – as a matter of courtesy – be advised of this beforehand.  There is no cost of strip hire for any squad member, nor for any coach giving lessons to any squad member.

The cost of the foil squad is absorbed into the billing process for Australian Fencing Team (AFT) and Australian Fencing Squad (AFS) members, as the squad is compulsory for those HPP members.

The cost for all non-AFT and non-AFS members for 2017 is as follows:

  • *  Full quarter squad fees - $250 (both Tuesdays and Fridays) or $150 (either night)
  • *  Full quarter squad fees if paid by week 3 of the start of quarter - $190 (both Tuesdays and Fridays) or $110 (either night)
  • *  Full quarter squad fees if paid after 2 weeks prior to the end of the quarter - $285 (both Tuesdays and Fridays) or $185 (either night)
  • *  Casual attendance - $25 per session

The link to pay for the 2017 squad is as follows: https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/Register.aspx?ID=24025.  This link may be used for each payment, each quarter.

The Foil squad will operate every week until and including Dec 6, with the exception of the following:

* Tue Nov 1 (Cup Day)

[Quarters are Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec]
