The AFF is deeply saddened to announce that our immediate past President Mr Andrew Ius passed away peacefully on 25 July 2017, following an extended period of illness.

Andrew contributed more than 30 years of selfless and devoted service to the AFF and the Australian fencing community, in a broad range of roles. He was a member of the former AFF Executive (and the current Board) for 32 years from his election in 1985 until his retirement at the 2017 AGM.

During that time, Andrew held a range of roles (including Treasurer, Secretary-General and Public Officer) and sat on a number of Commissions, including the Tournament Management Commission, the Finance & Administration Commission and the Selection Commission. He served as President of the AFF from 2009 to 2016.

Andrew also took on team management roles for a number of Australian representative teams and was instrumental in the successful hosting of key international events including the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the Challenge Australia Epee World Cup.

Andrew's contribution to the AFF was recognised by the award of Life Membership in May 2017 - the citation outlining the full extent of Andrew's contribution to Australian fencing is available here.

The AFF joins with the Australian and international fencing community in sending our heartfelt condolences to Andrew's wife Helen Smith, son Adriano, daughter Pia and many family and friends.

A service celebrating Andrew's life will be held at 10:00am on Friday, 4 August 2017 at Nelson Brothers Funeral Home at 81 Kororoit Creek Road, Williamstown. Members of the fencing community are welcome to attend.
