The AFF is again calling for interested fencers to nominate for the Australian Fencing Team and the Australian Fencing Squad for 2016/2017. Nominations will only be accepted by 25 July (AFT) or 29 July (AFS) via the AFF’s Registration and Payment System.
The AFF has provided a significant amount of source information regarding the AFF's High Performance Program on this web site under the High Performance menu, including a flowchart and some frequently asked questions. Athletes should take special note of the obligations in the HPP 2016-17 plan, as they have changed (compared to the 15-16 Plan).
Please ensure that you nominate for the correct age category under the correct program (AFT or AFS); for the purposes of the Selection Policy, a Cadet fencer is one born 2000-2003, and a Junior fencer is one born in 1997-2003 (these are aligned with the international eligibility requirements). Please also ensure that you fully understand the athlete commitments that are required under the HPP - these can be found in the High Performance Annual Program (High Performance menu at left, High Performance Program option).
The selection process and timeline will follow the Operational Protocol found on this web site under the Documents and Policies menu / All Documents and Policies option. There are currently no vacancies in the AFT for Junior Men's Foil fencers.
The AFC School Fencer Championships offers the opportunity for school-age fencers to represent their State in a representative level competition.
Each State is permitted to nominate a maximum of eight fencers in each event, and each fencer is only permitted to compete in one event. Each event consists of an individual competition immediately followed by a team competition.
There are two age categories:
Intermediate – students up to the third year of secondary school in their respective states
Senior – open to any school student
This means that States can send a total of 32 athletes in each weapon and gender (16 in each category). The two categories will be fenced as separate events, unless there are insufficient competitors, in which case the fields will be combined but separate medals will be awarded.
Please see the AFF's Weapons Control Policy (click here).
Start times are for the individual competition – the team competition will commence directly after the conclusion of each individual event

The Team will be selected based on results from this event, comprising the Top 4 fencers in the Senior division of each weapon. The Team will participate in a Training Camp (September 26 in Brisbane, immediately following the AFC Junior Championships). Following the camp, the Team will travel to New Zealand for a Training and Competition Tour. The tour will consist of training activities (27-28 September), followed by participation in the Oceania Junior Fencing Championships in Wellington (29 September – 2 October), before returning home on 3 October.

Fees associated with registrations can be found on the AFF Fees and Charges page (click here). The system accepts most debit and credit cards (including Amex), as well as debit Visa & Mastercard, and PayPal. Note that registrations received after normal registration closes are deemed as late registrations, and will attract a late fee.
Event registration usually opens about six weeks prior to the start of the event. If you affiliated with your State Association recently, and the system does not recognise you as an affiliated fencer, it is likely that your details have not been provided to the AFF by your State Association. In this case, you need to follow this up with your State Association in order to nominate in time.
The registration facility is accessible on all major computing platforms including Safari, Internet Explorer, Chrome, and on smartphones (iPhone, Android) and tablets.
The Online Registration facility can be used for the following events (click the links to access).

Most events above will require you to be "in good standing" (e.g. have no debts owing and be correctly affiliated) with your home State Association or Federation. Some may require the payment of a Team Levy. As such, you should be aware that (a) entries and registrations are accepted subject to final confirmation by your home State Association or Federation, (b) any payments received will be offset first against debts owed to the AFF, then to any event entry or registration fee.
Whether or not you have used the ARPS facility before, please do not wait until the last minute to register, otherwise you may be subject to late registration fees. Please note that the cut-off date for State affiliations for all National events is two days prior to the start of Late Entry (above).
