The Australian Fencing Federation wishes to bring to the attention of all Australian Fencers an Urgent FIE letter that has recently been released. This letter is related to fencing masks.
Based on advice that has been received by the AFF, it would appear that this change would apply to the 2014 Asian Under 23 Fencing Championships, in addition to the 2014 World Veteran Fencing Championships. The AFF is still awaiting advice as to whether this will be required at the 2014 Open Commonwealths Fencing Championships, and the 2014 Veteran Commonwealths Fencing Championships.
In line with the previous practice regarding notice to the Australian fencing community, the AFF will not be enforcing this change for the 2014 AFC School Team Championships, 2014 AFC3, and the 2014 AFC Junior Championships. Further advice is being sought re the 2014 Open and Veteran National Championships.
Regardless, this change will be applied from all AFC events from 1st January 2015 onwards.
Following the Australian Cadet and Under-15s Championships, the AFF is again calling for interested fencers to nominate for the Australian Fencing Team and the Australian Fencing Squad for 2014/2015. Nominations will only be accepted by 24 July (AFT) or 28 July (AFS) via the AFF’s Registration and Payment System. There are no vacancies for the Junior Men's Foil AFT or Junior Women's Epee AFT categories.
The AFF has provided a significant amount of source information regarding the AFF's High Performance Program on this web site under the High Performance menu, including a flowchart and some frequently asked questions.
Please ensure that you nominate for the correct age category under the correct program (AFT or AFS); for the purposes of the Selection Policy, a Cadet fencer is one born 1998-2001, and a Junior fencer is one born in 1995-2001 (these are aligned with the international eligibility requirements). Please also ensure that you fully understand the athlete commitments that are required under the AFT - these can be found in the High Performance Annual Program (High Performance menu at left, High Performance Program option).
The selection process and timeline will follow the Operational Protocol found on this web site under the Documents and Policies menu / All Documents and Policies option.
Athletes are reminded that the Call for Nominations for 2015 Commonwealth Cadets and Juniors, as well as for the 2015 Universiade (University Games) will take place during the 2014-15 AFT-AFS agreement term.
